Contact Lenses : Myths and Facts          by  Janice Kumar

There are a few myths associated with wearing contact lens.  A first time user may get dissuaded from wearing them because he/she may have heard something bad about them. Most ophthalmologists agree that contact lens are safe and easy to use. It is time to bust some myths.

Myth : Contact Lens fall out of Eyes.

This is not logical, as modern day contact lenses are very thin and they adhere to the eye using natural tear film. A contact lens falling out is very very rare. These days, sportsmen and people in aggressive, physically exhausting jobs also use these lenses without any problem.

Myth : Contact lenses make the Eyes blink continuously and more often than normal.

There is no scientific basis for this myth. Blinking takes place on account of dry eyes and reduced tear formation. Contact lenses are not a cause for excessive blinking.

Myth : Contact lenses Are Uncomfortable to Wear.

This may have been true with older contact lenses. However modern day lenses, are very soft and thin and are very easy and comfortable to wear. In fact after prolonged usage, the wearer may even forget that he/she is wearing them.

Myth : Contact Lenses Can hurt the Eyes

Modern day lenses have no sharp edges, are flexible and do not crack in the eye. They are safer than eye spectacles and provide excellent vision correction.

Myth : Contact Lenses are Expensive and Difficult to Use.

Modern contact lenses are comparatively much cheaper, very easy to use and have been known to lead to enhanced self confidence levels. They also improve the looks and external beauty of a person and on this account can be termed priceless.

So maybe it is time to visit that eye doctor and get that vision corrected with contact lenses... Living with uncorrected eye vision is dangerous and leads to rapid vision deterioration. It is time to rush to a ophthalmologist and get that vision correction done a.s.a.p.
